At BioDental Care, we pride ourselves in being able to offer the highest quality dental care in Mexico. One of the commitments we have made to ourselves and to our patients is to stay up-to-date with the very latest dental technologies so we can continue to offer efficient and effective dental services. 3D dental imaging is an important dental technology that aids in the safety and accuracy of a wide range of dental procedures. Not every dental practice has 3D dental scan capabilities, but we do.  If your dentist has asked you to obtain 3D dental imaging prior to a procedure, you could end up paying $600 or more for a 3D scan in the United States. But at BioDental Care, the 3D scan cost in Mexico is just a fraction of that at $200. Read on for more information.

What is 3D dental imaging?

3D dental imaging is a full head and neck computerized scan that gives the dentist a clear and detailed view of the teeth, gums, jaws, and facial structure. The dentist uses a special machine called a Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) machine that allows them to see significantly more than traditional X-ray machines do. 3D dental scans also emit much less radiation than 2D scans.

Benefits of 3D dental scan

With the CBCT machine, the dentist can see every detail of each tooth, including height, width, and depth, as well as the soft tissues, nerves, and bone structure. The 3D imagery also enables the dentist to identify root canal infections and to diagnose bone abnormalities in the jaw. Cone Beam Scan technology is especially important in the planning, assessment, and placement of dental implants. The dental scan provides the dentist with a clear roadmap that includes the precise location of nerves, making it easy to eliminate the risk of nerve damage involved with a poorly placed implant. 3D imaging is useful for a wide variety of dental procedures, and provides numerous benefits, including:

  • Comfortable scan process (it’s not enclosed or lying down as with MRI)
  • Optimum view (it can be rotated, flipped, moved for a 360-degree view) of critical anatomy
  • Short image-capture time
  • Advanced, high-resolution images
  • Increases diagnostic accuracy
  • Aids in treatment planning
  • Emits significantly less radiation than 2D scans

CBCT technology also produces easy-to-read images. The 3D dental scan makes it easier for patients to understand when the dentist explains the work that’s being done.

What dental procedures need 3D scans?

The safety and likelihood of success of just about any dental procedure will increase with a 3D scan. Of course, there was a time when traditional X-rays were the only thing available, and people still had braces, root canals, and tooth extractions.  Dental X-rays give a flat view of the inner structures of the teeth, and while we can learn a lot from that, CBCT scans provide a 360-degree view. The more information that is available to the dentist, the more possibilities there are for evaluating and optimizing the patient’s oral health. Many dental procedures can benefit from 3D dental scans, including:

  • Dental implants
  • Oral surgery
  • Holistic dentistry
  • Root canal therapy
  • Sleep apnea treatment
  • Tooth extractions
  • And more

3D dental scans help dentists to effectively treat their patients and reach successful outcomes in shorter periods of time.

How much does a 3D dental scan cost in Mexico?

Like many dental services, the 3D dental scan cost in Mexico is lower than it is in the United States. Dentists in Mexico have less overhead and a lower cost of living, so they’re able to offer quality dental services at affordable prices.  At BioDental Care in Tijuana, we offer 3D dental scans for $200. That’s a savings of 40% to 60% compared to the cost of a 3D dental scan in the U.S, which is typically $350 to $600.
